IMDb RATING 7.2/10

The animation is superb, particularly the landscapes and recreation of the 1970s. The tykes going all puppy-eyed and acting like mad hatters make the film a total laugh riot. It's a fun movie to watch for both kids and adults. Too 'grud' to overlook.

The animation is excellent. Some scenes, particularly those set in San Francisco — the winding roads and trams — are breathtaking. But what really makes this thing sing is that each character feels alive, which is quite an accomplishment for a franchise film whose characters are among the world's fastest-selling toys.

The animated comedy is an 88-minute delight, bolstered by a talented voice cast (including Julie Andrews as Gru's mother and Michelle Yeoh as a Kung Fu master) that aims to simply entertain all ages.

If the children in the audience are squealing with delight at the Minions' antics, from attempting to fly a plane to learning Kung Fu, then mission accomplished.

The plot of Minions: The Rise of Gru lacks a narrative. There are some references, but not many jokes. If you're under the age of 3, the answer is whether you can stomach 90 minutes of "le ooga booga banana por favour" is probably yes. However, in that case, any parent may as well just place their child in front of a YouTube playlist of D-Billions.
